The UK Department for International Development (DFID) is seeking to recruit leading scientists, academics and researchers in various fields of natural and social sciences to serve as Senior Research Fellows. Their work will be to undertake specific tasks to be agreed in the design and execution of research programmes. Still from the United Kingdom, Bangor University is offering ten fully-funded scholarship grants for a Masters of Science in Forestry through distance learning. The scholarships are currently available for entrants in September 2011. Applicants may be nationals of: Bangladesh, Botswana, Cameroon, The Gambia, Ghana, Guyana, India, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Namibia, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. Meanwhile, the United Nations University Institute for Natural Resources in Africa (UNU-INRA) is issuing a call for papers for an international conference that it wishes to organize. The goal of the conference is to highlight new research and community engagement on sustainable natural resource management and use. The conference will be held on 5 – 8 December 2011 at Accra, Ghana. The deadline for submitting abstracts is 31 July 2011. Download the PDF (only 65KB) for instructions.

Land Portal Coordinator (ILC)

The International Land Coalition and Landtenure.info have formed a partnership to create a Land Portal, an accessible, easy-to-use online platform to share land related information, monitor trends, and identify information gaps to promote effective and sustainable land governance. This partnership is also open to other land-related organisations interested in becoming actively engaged in the Land Portal development.

The recruitment process for the Land Portal Coordinator is now open. She/He will be hired by the International Land Coalition (www.landcoalition.org) acting as partner of the Land Portal partnership.

The Land Portal Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the implementation, maintenance, visibility and expansion of the Land Portal, currently under construction.

IFPRI Research Fellow, HarvestChoice

The International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) seeks a Research Fellow (research economist) for its HarvestChoice team in the Environment and Production Technology Division. This is a two-year, exempt, renewable appointment depending on performance and funding based at IFPRI headquarters in Washington, D.C.

HarvestChoice generates data, methods, tools and, increasingly, production, market and socio-economic evaluation that serve to inform strategic, agriculture-related investment choices targeted to raising the productivity and well-being of poor smallholder farmers in sub-Saharan Africa.
